Hi everyone, I’m interested in taking a leadership course. I’m not sure how to go about it. I’m also a little bit of an introvert. I’m still debating whether this is a good move. I want to get involved, but I also don’t, if that makes sense! Not sure if any of you are in the same boat. Any thoughts or advice? I’d appreciate as much input from you guys. Thanks in advance.

If you are interested in taking a leadership course, you can always apply online at a reputable school like Schulich. On the other hand, you could probably call the school and ask for advice, which I think may be the best thing to do, in view of what else you have said. It sounds like you have some issues.

I personally don’t know how big a role that might play or if it will be a hindrance in any way, however, you may want to work on it first. There are people you can see for help. In fact, there may be courses or programs to help you deal with any confidence issues.

You may want to do some reading about some leaders. The more you know, the more confidence you can gain. You can gain the skills necessary that can help you.

I had no idea you could take a course to improve confidence! That might be worth looking at.

It sounds like you can take it or leave it. If you decided to leave it, would that upset you? I mean, if you were thinking of becoming a lawyer, for example, would you be able to stand in court and speak to everyone?

I’d rather die than speak in front of others! But I see what you mean. That would be very difficult. I don’t think I’d be too upset if I didn’t do the course. That’s mainly because of the confidence thing, otherwise I would go for it. A leadership course is going to be a good thing though. I think my folks would be the ones who would really be disappointed!

Listen, you may not even qualify for the course. Sorry to be blunt, but a teacher or principal will have to endorse you, if I remember correctly. That means you should have shown some kind of leadership in a particular discipline. This could be in sports or something else. If you have not, then you may not be able to take the course.

I suggest that you address your personal demons first. It seems like it is holding you back. That means, your opportunities now and even later in life may be limited. Do something about that first, then worry about the rest later.

I strongly suggest that you call the school and get an appointment with a counsellor. They will most likely have one. Speak to them about your problem and your goals and aspirations. They are trained to help and advise you. See what they say.

If this is not for you, so be it, but speak to them first about everything. Be honest and up front. At least you will be in a better position to make a decision. Frankly, I think you are worrying yourself too much. I know taking a leadership course could mean that one day, you’ll be heading a team or leading a project. Take it one step at a time. It may not be so bad.

It’s in my nature to freak out! I can see you’re right though. I’ll call the school counsellor and see where it takes me. Thanks everyone.
