I was wondering if any of you have got the dental implant procedure done? I’m just browsing online for some information and thought I’d turn to my friends here at Forum Hope for help. I’m looking for information like…if there are any special measures that have to be taken? Is it a nuisance and does anyone have any regrets to having it done?

What kind of problems have you encountered? I would appreciate any advice on dental implant care. Any other advice is also most appreciated too!

First of all, stop worrying. I know it’s natural, but take it from me, since I’ve had it done too. You are causing yourself to get anxious and believe me, you will be glad you have chosen dental implants.

Dental implants feel and look natural. In fact, no one can even tell. You probably have been having issues with chewing and you are somehow compensating, right? I know I did. Well, after the implants, you will be as good as normal.

My only advice to you would be that you should take care of it as if they were your own teeth. Some people may feel that they can ‘take it easy’ with their oral health after getting implants.

Do not make this mistake. Keep doing the same things you would do if they were your own teeth, such as brushing, flossing and using a mouthwash.

I agree. Even if the teeth are not ‘real’, your gums are. That means you need to brush your teeth and floss. If not, you are prone to bacteria. This can affect your gums and make you bleed. You see my point? That’s why, take care as if it is all natural, otherwise you can get the same problems, just like someone with a natural set of teeth.

OK, thank you for that. I understand all of that, but was wondering if there are any other things that will be new to worry about.

No, not really. Well, obviously, there is the procedure itself, but I figured you were more interested in what happens afterwards, am I correct? In which case, there is nothing you need to concern yourself with. Just think of them as your own teeth. Just take care of them like they are your own teeth. You have done that all your life, so there is nothing new now.

Do you think your whole life will be turned upside down by this? You are just going to go back to being normal, when everything was as it should be. One thing though; just remember that you still need to see the dentist regularly.

Again, this is something you would have done anyway, so it isn’t something new. The only thing now is to check the implants and gums, to see if there is a problem. If there is, then it is best to spot it early and take care of it. So don’t underestimate the importance of regular dental visits.

Basically, just brush, floss and gargle with a good antibacterial mouthwash on a regular basis. Now is that so hard? See, you were worried for nothing! Where are you having it done?

Actually, I’m not having it done (yet). I probably will though, now that I spoke to you guys. I’m in Oshawa. There is an office called Your Smile Dental Care which I’ve heard good things about, so I may contact them.

Hey, small world! They have an office in Toronto, which is where I am. That’s where I had mine done. They were great. Yeah, check them out for your own procedure, when you’re ready.

I will. Thank you all. Looks like I worried for nothing! I appreciate the info and encouragement.
