Hello everyone! So lately my doctor told me I should consider doing more exercise… He said it would be good for my overall health, but also to help me deal with stress and anxiety.

I agree it’s a good idea… The thing is, I don’t really like sports, and I hate going to the gym! Which is why I went only twice before I decided I was never going back there…

My mom told me I should take dance classes, and that it would surely be something I would like. I’m ready to give it a try, but I’m not sure which dance classes I should take!

Is anyone here taking dance lessons? Can you recommend me some dancing style?

My two daughters have been taking ballet classes for a few years now, they really love it. One of them even wants to become a professional ballet dancer!

If you’ve never taken any dance classes before and you’re not sure what you’re interested in, maybe you should try a few different options before making your choice. Sometimes, dance schools offer free open door events that you can attend, and try out their lessons.

Dancing is definitely a great option if you want to exercise more! No matter which style of dance classes you choose, you can expect to become more fit after a few months, and it should also boost your confidence and make you feel better in your skin.

I’ve been taking hip hop dance classes since I was 12, and it helps me express myself in a way that no words can. I always feel so good and so energized, coming home after each class, and I’ve made some awesome friends as well!

That sounds great! I want to feel energized too! I’m not sure hip hop is for me though…

I think it’s a good idea to keep an eye on dance schools in my area and see if I can try out some of their classes. I’m in Toronto, so there should be plenty of dance schools all around, right?

I take classes at the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre and I love it. I know contemporary dance isn’t for everyone, but if it interests you you should definitely check out their classes, they are wonderful.

To help you decide which type of dance you want to learn, maybe ask yourself what your favourite music style is. Do you like pop music? Rock? Classical? Tango, samba?

Trust me, learning to dance on your favourite songs is the absolute best way to be motivated and excited about each new class! Music and dance should go together after all, right? If you want to fall in love with dancing, search for dance classes that go with the music you already love.

That sounds like a good idea! Do you take dance classes yourself? You sound so passionate about dancing…

Yes, my partner and I are taking tango classes together each week, and we are happier than ever! We already had a strong relationship, but I’d say dancing together had brought us even closer, which is great!

Wow! Well I’ll keep thinking about what you said… The thing is, I love different types of music, but I’m not sure which type is my favourite… I love some classical music, I also listen to the radio hits quite often, and I still listen to my father’s classic rock records… Well, I guess it should be easy for me to find a dance school that offers the right classes for me…

Absolutely! And if you try some classes and you don’t like them all that much, you can still go and try something else. It’s not forbidden to try different things!

That’s right… Well, thank you everyone for your advice!
