I got a few questions about DNA testing. I’d appreciate any advice you have, but I would appreciate it more if it came from those of you who have personal experience. Has anyone had a paternity DNA test? Were the findings accurate? Did you have to go somewhere specific to have the test done?

Hi there. I’ve had it done. Is yours a private thing or is this for legal issues? A private DNA test is much cheaper than one that is done for legal purposes. If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was twice as much.

It’s just for a private paternity test.

Ah, okay then. Yes, I had a private DNA test done myself. Yes, the findings are indeed accurate. I think it is very rare that the findings won’t be accurate, so you will know, one way or the other.

A private DNA test is just that – private. Nobody has to know and you do not have to go anywhere for it. You can take the test in the privacy of your home. You just need to send away for the kit. Once you receive it by mail, just follow the instructions carefully, but don’t worry, it is simple to follow.

You will get collection envelopes, mouth swabs and also a Chain of Custody form. You should also receive a self-addressed envelope (I know I received one) and when you are done, just send it back.

Oh, okay, that’s good to know. I was worried! I thought I had to go somewhere to have this done and that it was going to be complicated.

  • at August 22, 2018

No, don’t worry. They do the complicated stuff! I think you have to go somewhere for the legal method, but I may be wrong. I did not have that done, so I am not sure.

Do you know if they can still do this test if I am not available?

  • at August 22, 2018

Yes, they can. That’s what happened with me. I happened to be in a different city at the time. They did something called a Relationship test. They tested people related to me. It was also accurate. You’re not thinking of running away, are you? You can run, but you can’t hide.

  • at August 22, 2018

Ha-ha, no, I wasn’t. (Well, so much for that option then). No, the thing is, I travel a fair amount because of the job I have. I was wondering if they could do the test if I wasn’t physically present in the city.

  • at August 22, 2018

Yeah, sorry about that. I was just messing with you. But yeah, they can do it for sure, whether you are there or not.

  • at August 22, 2018

I am also concerned about my privacy.

  • at August 22, 2018

Yes, that is understandable, but don’t worry. Just make sure to use someone trusted and reputable. I spoke with CRI Genetics and told them my concerns and they made me feel very comfortable and secure about this. All your DNA information is yours and if you want, you can have them delete or destroy it as well.

Oh, that’s good to know. Well, thank you everyone. I feel a bit better after your advice.

No problem, Rachel! Good luck with everything!
